These daytime Shotokan Karate-dō adult and senior classes focus on the internal dynamics of karate that make for sharp, fast external action. Through special drills we work to coordinate ibuki (breath), zanshin (mental follow through) and movement to allow for greatest relaxation (which translates to speed) and physical locking (with translates to power). Slow, kihon (basics) practice is our best friend in this class, and through it we will work to increase all of these internal dynamics, as well as stance strength and connection to the floor – and hip flexibility. All levels, beginner to advanced, ages 18~, should get a good sweat on and progress technically. This is karate in order to be able to do karate; how karate makes you strong; and how the strong do karate. Basics all the way. Wear loose clothing or any gi you have, class location is posted at the entrance to the town on the bulletin board.
