ANNUAL WALK
“THE SHARED PATH”“PARQUE HISTORIQUE”
Saturday, June 2, 2012
1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Everyone Welcome *
Light Refreshments
Members of the Swansea Historical Society and any interested persons are invited to join us for our annual historic walk. This year's walk will be led by local historian and SHS member Madeleine McDowell. We will assemble at 1:00 pm at the parking lot on the south side of the PetroCanada station located at #8 South Kingsway.
From the parking lot, we will begin by heading a little to the north, to the actual starting point of the walk, on high ground overlooking the Humber Marshes. The same view was portrayed in Kathleen Lizars' 1913 book, “The Valley of The Humber”.
Much of the walk will follow the “Shared Path Parque Historique”, Toronto's newest Discovery Walk, opened in the fall of 2011. The City of Toronto still does not have a Museum to tell the story of Toronto's history. The new historic park is, in effect, the story of Toronto's roots, covering several millennia, outdoors, and in the setting where much of Toronto's story took place.
The walk includes some magnificent views and vistas, as well as several illustrative historical plaques. The continued highlight and principal theme of the walk is, of course, our Heritage River, Swansea's place on it, and Lake Ontario – the “Beautiful Lake”.
We plan to return to the parking lot on South Kingsway about 3:30 pm, more or less, for refreshments.
